Sorry, but putting powdered sugar on a sopaipilla should be illegal. Honey only...unless it is stuffed with a ground beef filling and topped with green chile. Now I'm hungry.
I haven't seen stuffed sopaipillas outside of NM. And I don't know if Carlsbad Tavern puts powdered sugar on them if you order them WITH dinner. We always order them afterwards. Fried dough, powdered sugar, honey... I want more now.

Both. I say sopaipillas are not really a dessert.
I think when they're served with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, sopaipillas attain dessert status. Better than donuts, dude. Mmm...
