Anxiety

Last night, teaching anxiety dominated my dreams. Showing up late to class. Not having enough copies of my syllabus. Students out of control. General lack of preparedness. Missing a class altogether.

Sigh.

Every semester, I have nightmares before school starts. During the day, I look forward to getting back into the classroom again. I'll be teaching my community college students about the solar system and I get to torment university students with physics! Sounds like fun to me. And last semester, I had a great crop of students, but each semester involves new people and new challenges. Will they like me? Will I like them? Will I do a good job?

I wonder what this semester will bring?

I had one of those last week too-nasty dreams!!

But in this dimension, when you're awake, I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Last night, my dreams implied that my pretests would already be filled out and unusable and that there wouldn't be enough of them and that my syllabi weren't ready.

Breathe, Lisa, breathe.

Good luck, Judy!

Good luck today, Sarah!

This semester all the kids that would have asked about string theory will instead ask about eleven-dimensional M-theory. M-theory is the new black.

Scarily enough, David, I've had questions about M-theory from some of my astro students. Keep me on my toes, they do.

Thanks, Lisa. It went fine. One of my students speaks Elvish, so all is right with the world.

Just remember you can always make astrology believers cry, and all will be right with the world.

No M-theory questions, although I think one student did leave the class when she realized this was not an astrology class. Oh, I know you think I just joke about this, but it's real.
