It's All Sarah's Fault

The much beloved SarahP sent Greg a few of the Miles Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold earlier this summer. Upon seeing how much Greg enjoyed them, I read them, too. And thus started my obsession. Since late July, I've read thirteen novels and two short stories in this series. I've read two novels in the past four days. Now I'm done with the series, and I shall miss Miles.

The Miles Vorkosigan books have shown me how much an author can accomplish in a series. Each novel was truly a self-contained story in itself. The tone of the novels varied wildly - laugh-out-loud funny, rollicking space opera, heartwrenching drama. Miles was deeply flawed, heroic, silly, intelligent, and real. One of my favorite fictional characters ever. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Hmm...what book will I read tonight?

Yay! I'm SO glad you enjoyed them and went on to read the whole series. When I was sick this summer, they're what I picked up as comfort reading. At WisCon I got into an elevator with LMB and gushed at her until she fled on the ninth floor. *sigh*

I hear she's very shy; I probably frightened her.

Her latest fantasy trilogy is pretty good--the Hallowed Hunt is best, with the coolest swordfighting move ever in it.

It'll be hard to beat Miles, but I'll gladly pick up Bujold's latest fantasy work.

I'm happy I finally read the Vorkosigan saga. I realize that part of what prohibited me for so long was the cover art. Isn't that terrible? I got interested in Bujold after seeing her at a con, her glare blistering a fellow panelist who was discussing raising cats like they were children.

I think Bujold's glare was because the panelist claimed that she knew just what it was like to raise children, because, after all, she had cats. Which I can understand a parent of human children finding a little presumptuous.

Yes, that's definitely a better way to put it. Thanks, dude!

I finished Shards of Honor on vacation, which is sort of the prequel, I suppose. Dug it a great deal, although that's partly because of the ballsy dame. Have the other books got bassly dames in 'em?

Damn it. BALLSY. I can't type.

Definitely ballsy dames, although mostly focused on males. I'm glad you liked the book, K!
