I'm a scientist and an educator. And occasionally, I want to say things that I shouldn't say in front of the students. So, here I am.
I say we bring the Moon and the Sun back into the definition and kick out everything past Saturn, the way Hipparchus and Ptolemy intended it! Uranus and Neptune will henceforth be known as “trans-Saturnian objects.”
It's bad enough that some people call Uranus and Neptune "ice giants" and others call them "gas giants". I'm with David - all hail "trans-Saturnian objects"!
