Why would they laugh?

Last night, a student waited until all the other students left to ask me a question. He wanted to know what one had to do to become an astronaut. He said he waited til his classmates left because he was afraid they'd laugh at him. Is it just me, or does that make you sad, too?

A little, yeah.

Props to him, though, for dreaming. Because you never know!

I think it's more sad for the other kids, the ones who'd laugh. Apparently they don't aim very high.

I'm just disturbed that anyone could perceive wanting to be an astronaut as laughable. SIGH!
